Trouble Shooting over Problem Solving
I came across this quick idea from Harvard Business School adapted from “Trouble Shoot Your Way to Recovery” by John Baldoni, and thought it very appropriate. Too often we get caught up in coming up with an elaborate plan for resolution when what we really need is a simple, practical, methodical approach to resolve the problem.
When your printer breaks, you don’t sit back and think about how to solve the problem. You troubleshoot by trying out different approaches. Use those same troubleshooting skills to solve business problems quickly and efficiently. Get close to the problem and the frontline employees and customers who are experiencing it. Find the root cause and determine what is required to fix the problem. Most importantly, find the best person to implement the solution. Hands-on troubleshooting allows you to deeply understand the problem and be more actively involved in the solution
Sometimes simple is best and this suggestion is elegant in its practicality.
